If the door takes two hands and a shoulder, the rollers underneath it have collapsed. We replace them, deal with the track they damaged on the way out, and set the panel back square — on site, in most cases in a single visit.
Nothing about your door is actually broken
A sliding glass panel is heavy, and its entire weight rides on four small wheels. When those wheels wear flat or seize, the panel stops rolling and starts dragging itself along the track. It feels heavy, it sounds wrong, and month by month it cuts a groove into the metal beneath it.
Rollers are consumable parts. They are designed to be replaced. What goes wrong in this state is that homeowners get quoted a complete door replacement for a component worth a fraction of it, usually because a sliding patio door is expensive enough to be worth someone's while to sell.

Sliding door questions
How do I know whether it is the rollers or the track?
If the door drags but the track still looks clean and smooth, it is the rollers. If you can see or feel grooves and burrs in the metal, both need attention. We check both during the estimate.
Can the track be repaired, or do I need a new door?
Repaired, in nearly every case. A stainless steel cap fits over the damaged original and gives the new rollers a hard, true surface. Replacing the frame is rarely necessary.
My door came off the track. Should I lift it back on?
Please do not. The panel is heavy and awkward, and forcing it can chip the track or crack the glass. It will not stay on either, because the rollers have collapsed.
Is my sliding door a security risk?
It can be. Sliding doors are a common entry point, and a worn latch or a panel that lifts in its track makes it easier still. We fit auxiliary locks and anti-lift hardware where a door needs it.
How do I keep it working afterwards?
Vacuum the track a few times a year and use a dry silicone lubricant rather than an oil-based spray. Oil holds dust, and dust is what wears rollers out.
